In recent years, with increasing environmental awareness, the development of biodegradable plastics has received growing attention. Especially in China, since the "plastic ban" and dual-carbon policy were introduced in 2020, the production and sales of biodegradable plastics have shown a significant upward trend. In 2021, China's production and sales of biodegradable plastics reached 302,000 tons and 276,000 tons respectively, with year-on-year growth exceeding 20%.
According to data from the China Business Industry Research Institute, in 2021, disposable shopping bags accounted for the highest proportion of sales revenue among biodegradable plastic products in China, reaching 71.3%. This was followed by disposable tableware and express delivery packaging, accounting for 21.5% and 4.8% respectively. This indicates a significant policy-driven effect; as biodegradable plastics continue to replace other products in these application areas, public acceptance of biodegradable plastics is constantly increasing.
With the deepening of the "plastic ban," the demand growth potential for biodegradable plastics in China remains vast. In the future, biodegradable plastics are expected to penetrate more downstream sectors, making a greater contribution to environmental protection and sustainable development.
